SaferVPN Review
Welcome to our SaferVPN review, where we take a look at an easy-to-use option for safer browsing.
A VPN, for those who aren’t in the know, is a service that allows safer browsing by creating an encrypted connection between your computer and a remote server. Go here (http://www.australianvpn.com.au/what-is-a-vpn/) for more information about what a VPN is and what it can do for you.
Fast speeds for Aussies
SaferVPN is another service provider that has servers based in Australia, for those who need high speeds and low pings, and who aren’t pretending to be in a different country altogether.
Their prices are impressively low, and their US$22.49/month seven-user small business contract is a very nice price point, ending up as a single US$269.88 transaction per year. That goes up to US$29.99/month if you choose not to be billed annually.
SaferVPN Pricing
For home users, there is a choice between a single-connection contract for US$5.99/month (billed as US$71.88 once a year) rising to US$7.99/month if you choose to pay monthly, and a three-connection option for US$10.99/month (billed annually as US$131.88) which goes up to US$16.90/month if you choose to pay monthly. Except for the number of simultaneous connections allowed, there is not much to choose between their basic and premium contracts. They offer a 24-hour free trial as well as a 14-day money back guarantee, which should give you enough time to decide whether this is the service for you.
The prices are quoted in US dollars, but there is also an option to see the prices in Canadian dollars, Euros, British pounds, and Israeli shekels. There is no option to display prices in Australian dollars, however, so you will have to calculate exchange rates and cope with possible variations in the monthly bill.

VPN Features
SaferVPN offers unlimited server switching and no caps on your bandwidth, giving you the freedom to use the Internet the way you want to do it. They make use of 256-bit encryption and offer support for OpenVPN, IKEv2, L2TP/IPSec, and PPTP protocols.
While there are apparently plans in place to introduce a DNS service for SaferVPN, at the moment they do not offer that service. They also do a small amount of logging on their system, including: Connect/disconnect times, the amount of data used, your IP address, and the IP address of the VPN server you connected to. While they promise that they do not monitor which websites you connect to or the data sent over the network, the more paranoid user may decide that even a little logging is too much.
During SaferVPN review testing, the VPN appeared to have very little effect on browsing and download speeds, setting it firmly among the low-impact VPN options.
Software
SaferVPN offers a selection of apps to use with their service, catering for users of Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. They also have a Chrome extension, allowing you to integrate their service fully into your browsing experience. The Chrome extension is a delight; responsive when you need to use it and unobtrusive while you’re working. The Windows app boasts an uncluttered, simple to understand and easy-to-use interface that blends beautifully with the UI in later versions of Windows. It is highly automated, which is useful for those who just want to install it and be able to ignore it later, but not such wonderful news for those of us who enjoy having a bit of a tinker with our software.
24/7 Customer Service
SaferVPN’s website boasts of their 24/7 customer service via live chat and email. For our SaferVPN review, we tested both these options. The live chat was quick to respond via the very helpful ‘can we help?’ popup on the website, although the representative did not have the information we needed. Attempting to contact customer support via email did not appear to work, as several hours later there had been no response.
Some of SaferVPN’s features include:
- Easy to use. SaferVPN’s setup takes seconds, and using their service is as simple as could be.
- Fast VPN. SaferVPN has virtually no impact on browsing or download speeds.
- Easy-to-use apps. Their apps are incredibly simple and easy to use.
- No third parties. SaferVPN owns their own servers, which means that they don’t give third parties access to your data.
On the whole, SaferVPN seems like a nice starter option for someone new to the VPN scene, but there are several cons for those with a more security-conscious mind-set, such as their logging policies and the lack of in-house DNS support.

SaferVPN provides a great option for someone new to VPN’s – however if you are really worried about VPN services keeping you data logs, look else where as their logging policies are not ideal for the most security-conscious user.
